The Raton Museum was established in 1938. It is owned and operated by The Colfax County Society of Art, History, & Archaeology. The Society aims to increase and diffuse knowledge on and appreciation for all cultural subjects and in the same manner, to establish and maintain in the City of Raton a Museum in New Mexico. It also works toward the preservation, display, promotion, and protection of works of art, historical photographs as well as objects that have strong cultural and historical value.

Through the Museum?s exhibits and permanent displays of artifacts and photographs, the rich history and cultural diversity of Raton, its railroading and mining community, and its Santa Fe Trail connection are featured.

The Museum also hosts special occasions and events.
