Running from the northwest to the southeast of Taos, NM is the 800 foot deep, Rio Grande Gorge. The area offers stunning scenery, complete with white water and numerous petroglyphs. Hot springs and several ruins can also be found at the bottom of the gorge.

Folks who wish to visit the Rio Grande Gorge can enjoy a number of activities in the area. White water rafting, kayaking, and rock climbing are on the top of the list for those looking for adventure, while cold stream fishing is also possible. For those who are after the view, there?s also the Wild Rivers Backcountry Byway with a couple of overlooks, offering outstanding view.

The Rio Grande Gorge is also home to the historic Rio Grande Gorge Bridge.
