The Silver City Museum was founded in 1967 and is operated by the Town of Silver City and supported by the non-profit Silver City Museum Society and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. It occupies the restored 1881 Mansard/Italianate HB Ailman House. The Museum’s collection consists of 20,000 objects that are related to the people and history of southwest New Mexico. Its Board Directors, comprised of 12 members, is appointed by the Mayor of Silver City. The Board is also in charge of the strategic planning and policy of the Museum.
The Silver City Museum is administered by the Museum Staff with the help of a large corps of volunteers. It holds events and activities to emphasize on the historical significance of its region.
