The Smokey Bear Historical Park is a local park in Capitan, New Mexico. It is best known for being the birthplace of Smokey Bear.

Mostly designed to inform the public about forest health, fires, ecology, and wildland/urban interface issues, the Smokey Bear Historical Park has a very interesting back story. It is named after Smokey Bear, a bear that was found in the area as a cub with burnt paws after a forest fire in 1950. He lived in the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. for 26 years until his death and was returned to the city to be buried. Where he was interred became the Smokey Bear Historical Park.

Visitors of the Smokey Bear Historical Park can enjoy various amenities of the park, including a playground, picnic area, an outdoor ampitheater, and the town?s historic train depot.
