On July 16, 1945, in a barren desert region of Socorro, New Mexico, the United States Military tested one of its then-latest weapons that would forever change the world and usher in a new era. This weapon was the atomic bomb. The area where this first-ever atomic weapon was detonated was dubbed Trinity Site, after the nickname given to the project.

A National Historic Landmark, the ground zero displays a black stone marker called the Trinity Site Obelisk. History and military buffs should visit this place where the world?s first plutonium bomb was dropped. The Trinity Test was part of the Manhattan Project, the code name for the top-secret weapons research program of the United States during the World War II that paved the way for the development of nuclear weapons. The site is open for public visits.
