The Boldt Castle was initially a project of love of George C. Boldt, renowned millionaire and owner of New York’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel for his spouse, Louise Boldt. It was supposed to be a magnificent 6-storey castle with 120 rooms, gardens, its own powerhouse, a drawbridge, and a pigeon cote. But, construction stopped when Louise died in 1904.

The Castle was left unfinished and abandoned for 73 years. Because of this, the structure suffered from the harsh elements and vandalisms. In 1977, the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority purchased it and fixed up the castle and the whole Heart Island where it is located. Today, the Boldt Castle functions as a museum, a romantic getaway or a family destination, a perfect setting for weddings and the venue for the annual Wine Festival and Farmers Market.
