Before the completion of the Empire State Building in 1931, the Chrysler Building was the world?s tallest skyscraper towering at 319 meters. It is currently the third tallest building in New York sharing the rank with The New York Times Building. Characterized by the opulent Art Deco design, it is regarded by numerous architects as one of the finest structures in New York City. In fact, in a survey conducted by New York?s Skyscraper Museum, the Chrysler Building ranked one among the respondents? favorite New York towers.

The building housed the head office of Chrysler Corporation from 1930 to the mid 1950?s although the construction of the building was funded personally by Walter Chrysler so his children could inherit it.

The Chrysler Building was constructed during a very competitive era to build New York?s tallest building and was built at an impressive pace of four floors completed per week. When it was finished in 1930, it became the first man-made building to surpass 1,000 feet.

The fame of the Chrysler Building has been reaffirmed several times as it has been used several times in popular culture especially in movies. It appeared in numerous blockbusters such as Deep Impact, Fantastic Four, Godzilla and Armageddon.
