Located in Lower Manhattan just a stone’s throw away from Wall Street and the South Seaport, the New York City Police Museum pays tribute to the history and accomplishments of the New York City Police Department – the biggest police force in the USA – from its creation 1845. Formerly found at 26 Broadway, Bowling Green, it was transferred to its current location at 100 Old Slip in 1992, where the First Precinct broke ground.

While New York City Police Museum’s main attraction is a 9/11 memorial found on its third floor, it houses a comprehensive collection of data on the heritage of the New York Police District. Other exhibits showcase a 1972 Plymouth Fury (an automobile manufactured by Chrysler that was intended for the police fleet), a timeline showing the evolution of transportation, a jail cell recreation, the different uniforms used by the NYPD and other artifacts. The Hall of Heroes feature all the names and badges of all policemen that died on duty.

The New York City Police Museum also has a simulation on what happens during a shootout to better educate civilians on police protocols.
