Unlike the more conservative, old-school grandeur of other domed state capitols (majority were designed after the Main Capitol), the New York State Capitol’s design evokes a different kind of grandeur and extravagance. This Romanesque Revival and Neo-Renaissance building hired the services of five architects. At the time of its completion in 1899, the capitol’s construction cost $25 million.

But the result was worth the cost. The capitol is regarded as one of the most beautiful buildings in all of United States. Located at the heart of capital city of Albany, the capitol houses the New York State Legislature. This is the third capitol building used by the New York state government. It was built by hand for over 25 years.

The capitol was added to the National Register of Historic Landmark in January 29, 1979. Countless guests visit this breathtakingly beautiful capitol via public guided tours.
