The Skyscraper Museum celebrates New York City's architectural heritage. It focuses and gives recognition to the individuals and historical elements that have contributed to the successive skylines of the city.

In 1997 to 2003, the Museum inhabited 4 different temporary spaces. Its 1st inaugural show ran in 1997 at a vacant banking hall in New York's financial district. The Museum moved to the Bankers Trust Building at Wall Street where its 2nd and 3rd exhibits were showcased. The Museum also inhabited a structure in Maiden Lane where it had to evacuate because of the World Trade Center Disaster. The Skyscraper Museum moved to its permanent home in March 2004.

The Museum's exhibits, programs, and publications help visitors explore the city's tall buildings as objects of design, sites of construction, and products of technology, residences, offices, and investments in real estate.
