The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum which is more often referred to as ?The Guggenheim? is a prominent attraction in the rich Upper East Side in Manhattan, New York. Considered as one of the most significant architectural landmarks created in the 20th century, the museum serves as the home to hundreds of masterpieces of numerous artists Impressionist to Contemporary art including that of Picasso and Van Gogh.

The design of the museum which deviated from the usual rectangular and boxy characteristic of popular New York museum caused a stir in the art world. Critics said that the shape of the museum ? spiral and ribbon-like ? outshadowed the artworks themselves. Several artists whose works were some of the first few that were featured in The Guggenheim even wrote a letter of complaint protesting how their creations were displayed. This particular design of the museum made it very iconic that when a rectangular structure was added to it in 1992, The Guggenheim once again became controversial.

Inside, the museum features curving walls with a web-like skylight found in its center.
