The Van Cortland House Museum serves as a symbol of the state?s colonial past, including the significant individuals who have made remarkable contributions in shaping the history of New York.

Housed in a magnificent Georgian-style structure was constructed for Frederick Van Cortland as the central point of his wealthy wheat plantation. The mansion if considered to be the oldest among the residences in the Bronx.

Today, visitors can tour the family?s formal and private rooms, which still contain numerous original possessions. One can also see and tour the mansion?s kitchen and slave bedchamber that provides a glimpse of the life and times of the people who inhabited the plantation.

Admission to the Van Cortland House Museum is free for everyone.
