The Battle of Asheville Site is a Civil War battle site in Asheville, North Carolina. The very spot where the skirmish took place is located the Botanical Gardens at Asheville, inside the University of North Carolina at Asheville campus.
The Battle of Asheville is actually an afterthought event. It occurred in April 1865, a couple of days before General Lee surrounded, which marked the end of the war. The Confederate?s Sixty-second North Carolina Infantry Regiment was actually one of the state?s last regiments to surrender, making the event possible.
The Battle of Asheville Site is commemorated through a large plaque marker and some interpretive signs. Visitors are reminded not to disturb the area too much, despite the urge to crawl into certain spaces.
