The Bodie Island Lighthouse is a well known attraction in Nags Head, North Carolina. It was built in 1872 and stands 156 feet tall.

The Bodie Island Lighthouse is an interesting structure. It was actually the third lighthouse in the area, with the first one (built in 1847) weathered away due to poor foundation and the second one (built in 1859) got destroyed by retreating Confederate troops who believed that it could be used as an Union observation post.

The Bodie Island Lighthouse is named after the Body family who originally owned the land. It is currently a popular tourist destination, with its vicinity filled with gift shops that sell maps of the shipwrecks in the area. It was recently restored after a long time of planning and waiting.
