The Caswell No. 1 Fire Station Museum is a local museum in Kinston, North Carolina. It celebrates the city’s oldest municipal building, the Caswell No. 1 Fire Station Museum, and the area’s local history.
Local tradition states that the fire station was built in 1895 after a great fire destroyed the majority of the downtown Kinston area. To prevent such a disaster from happening ever again, the city focused on developing a modern firefighting facility and system, starting with the building. Among the numerous things that the site features are firefighting equipment and essentials like a 1922 LaFrance Pumper, a collection of ladders, nozzle, helmets, and fire extinguishers.
There are also a great amount of memorabilia from the time of the building’s completion.
