The Elizabethan Gardens is a wonderful venue in Manteo, North Carolina. It is actually a living memorial garden dedicated to the English colonizers who arrived to the Americas during the 1584 to 1587.

Described as a mixture of history, mystery, and fantasy, the Elizabethan Gardens is a way of saying thanks to the first colonizers who ?walked away through the dark forest into history?. It was started by the Garden Club of North Carolina in 1951 and was completed and opened in 1960.

Dubbed as a 16th century pleasure garden, the Elizabethan Gardens is actually a great place to enjoy a warm day with the family. It has a Shakespearean herb garden, flower bordered walkways, thatched gazebo, formal sunken gardens, and an antique garden statuary among many others.
