Falls Lake State Recreation Area is a state park in Durham, North Carolina. It covers more than thirty thousand acres of area, including the twelve thousand acres of the Falls Lake.

The Falls Lake State Recreation Area was created in the late 1970s as a flood control project. Back in the earlier days, the Neuse River caused massive damage to properties near it due to flooding. This is why the US Army Corps of Engineers took action and started the Falls Lake Project to control the damaging floods. The site was completed in 1981 and also provided tons of recreational opportunities along with its original purpose of preventing floods.

Folks who are looking into visiting the Falls Lake State Recreation Area can enjoy hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, and canoeing on the site. Swimming is also allowed on some parts of the area.
