The Grove Arcade in Asheville, North Carolina was established in 1929 by self-made millionaire E.W. Grove. It was originally planned to have a base that is five floors high and topped by a 14-storey tower. But, Mr. Grove died two years before it was finished, leaving only the 5-storey base completed. However, it still opened and stood to be the largest structure in the province and one of the nation?s top public markets. It flourished until the Second World War and was later on renovated to its original glory. The Grove Arcade was re-established in 2002 as one of the main tourist destinations in Asheville. It features shopping and dining in North Carolina?s most historic places. Inside, one can find antiques, local art, gift items and restaurants with international flair. Outside are more shopping booths featuring crafts and farmers? produce.
