The Madison-Derr Iron Furnace is a historic site in Pumpkin Center, North Carolina. It features the site of the historic Madison-Derr Iron Furnace, built in 1809 by General Peter Forney.

The Madison-Derr Iron Furnace was built to answer the needs of the area?s local residents for tools and implements made of steel. It produced inexpensive iron tools that gave birth to the piedmont iron industry. The site provided cannon balls for the military during the War of 1812. It continued to serve the area until 1861, when the site stopped production due to the Civil War. After the war, production never really recovered, mostly since slave labor wasn?t exactly possible to acquire and take advantage of anymore.

Today, the Madison-Derr Iron Furnace is being developed by the Lincoln County Historical Association. Updates about this project can be found on their website.
