The Montrose Gardens is one of the best noted gardens in the South. Located in Hillsborough, North Carolina, it traces its roots back to the 19th century when its landscape was first crafted. Add to this the fact that the acclaimed author and plantswoman, Nancy Goodwin, also helped work on the site, and you really have a site worth visiting.

Created in 1842 by Susan Washington Graham and husband William Alexander Graham with the help of Thomas Paxton, known for his landscape work in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Montrose Gardens has really gone through a lot, after all these years. It was acquired in 1977 by Nancy Goodwin, who expanded it greatly.

Today, the Montrose Gardens is nationally known and noted. Tours are available by appointment.
