The Museum of the Albemarle enhances the understanding of the people of Albemarle on the history and material culture, particularly the Albemarle Region.

It houses regional collections, historical interpretation, and professional assistance. The museum also encourages its citizen and visitors to pursue the exploration and understanding of the past. It enables the people to reflect on their own lives and their places in history. The Museum also works toward the preservation of the regional history for the future generations.

The Museum features the Madrin Gallery, which tells the history of the Albemarle area. With 6,200 square feet of exhibit space, it contains more than 700 artifacts depicting the story of the watermen, farmers, lifesavers, and soldiers of the Albemarle region. The Museum also houses the Jackson House, the Proctor Smokehouse, the Albemarle Timeline, the Discovery Room, and many more.
