Highlighting the beautiful cityscape of Raleigh, North Carolina is a 170-year old Greek Revival building that is the embodiment of the state?s proud history, tradition and achievements ? the North Carolina State Capitol.

The North Carolina State Capitol is the state?s seat of government completed in 1840. It was a product of collaborative design efforts of several architects, particularly William Nichols Sr. and Alexander Davis. The capitol houses the office of the Governor and his staff. It used to house the entire government until 1888, and the North Carolina General Assembly convened here until it relocated to its current building, the North Carolina State Legislative Building. The Lieutenant Governor also stayed here until 1969.

The Capitol was added to the list of National Historic Landmark in 1973.
