The North Carolina Zoo is a zoo in Asheboro, North Carolina. It is best noted for being the largest “walk through” natural habitat zoo in the planet, as well as for being the first of the sort in the country. It is also one of the only two state owned zoos in the country.

The North Carolina Zoo presents a great deal of attractions and educational opportunities to its visitors. They have more than 1100 animals and over 250 species present in the site, mostly representing Africa and North America. It was established in 1967 through the North Carolina legislature.

Roaming around the North Carolina Zoo grounds are polar bears, river otters, elephants, rhinoceros, giraffes, zebras, baboons, and alligators, just to name a few. It is open year round and welcomes over 700 thousand visitors yearly.
