The Orton Plantation Gardens is the section of the historic Orton Plantation that is open to the public. It is the historic estate?s garden.
The Orton Plantation Gardens traces its history back to 1735, when the plantation was built and established by Roger Moore, a co-founder of the town of Brunswick. It is currently one of the oldest structures in the county, and has been through a lot due to its age. It has been used as a fort against the hostile Indians, a military hospital, and a residence to several prominent figures, including a former Colonial governor. The Orton Plantation Gardens is the owners? way to share the estate?s history and heritage, even without having to open the main house?s door to the public.
