The Port O?Plymouth Museum is a local history museum in Plymouth, North Carolina. It focuses on the Civil War period and features the 1864 Battle of Plymouth primarily.
Housed in the 1923 Atlantic Coastline Railroad station building, the Port O?Plymouth Museum tells of the state?s participation during the Civil War. The 1864 Battle of Plymouth centered on the Confederate forces? attack to the Federal garrison located at Plymouth. The Confederates struck with the help of the CSS Albermarle, which sunk the USS Southfield, damaged the USS Miami, and drove away the other Union Navy ships. The museum features artifacts from this event, some of which are on loan from the Historic Society of Buffalo, New York and the Smithsonian Institute.
