The Sunset Theatre is a historic performance venue in Asheboro, North Carolina. This Spanish Colonial Revival style structure is the first theatre to be ever constructed in the city.

Built in 1930, the Sunset Theatre was designed as a movie house. It was built in a style that was very popular in Hollywood, fashioned after the examples of the ?Moorish Pictures Palaces? that were common in southern California back in the days. It was financed and owned by local businessman Kirby Cox and designed by architect WC Holleyman, Jr.

Sadly, like many venues of the sort, the Sunset Theatre faced hard times. To salvage the building, it served as a second run theater and then as an events venue. It was purchased by the local government in 2005.

Today, the Sunset Theatre operated as a performing arts center under the Asheboro Parks & Recreation.
