The state of North Carolina is best known for being the ?First in Flight? state, with the Wright brothers successfully completing their first flight in Kitty Hawk, NC. This is why the state is filled with many aviation museums, one of which is the Western North Carolina Air Museum. What made this one special and worth checking out, though, is the fact that it is the first air museum in the state.
Established in 1989, the Western North Carolina Air Museum pioneered the chronicling of the development and progress of the aircraft. It focuses on the Smoky Mountain aviation history of the area and the aerial legacy of the entire state. It features a number of original airplanes, some of which are restored and reproductions.
