The Wright Brothers National Memorial is the site where the world’s first controlled powered flight took place. On December 17, 1903, the American historic moment happened here. After 4 years of experimentation, the Wright brothers achieved their first successful flight that changed the world forever.

Now, the site commemorates the event through the visitor center that contains interpretive presentations and full-scale reproductions of the Wright 1903 Powered Flyer. Exhibit halls in the pavilion include a 1902 Wright Glider replica as well as a multipurpose auditorium.

The grounds outside also include replica camp buildings, a reconstructed hanger, and certain historical markers of every attempted powered flight. In honor of the Wright brothers, a 60-ft granite monument sits on top of the Big Kill Devil Hill.
