The Fargo Dome has hosted some of the biggest and most popular concerts, tradeshows, and sporting events between Minneapolis and Seattle. It is also famous for being the home field for the NDSU Bison football team.
The dome was the idea of Bob Johnson, Fargo Parks Superintendent. In 1987, the formal proposal was introduced. It was first modeled after the Tacoma Dome in Washington as an air-structured dome. It ended up with a hard roof, making it not a dome in appearance. After 5 years, the facility, which is owned by the city, opened to the public in 1992. In 1998 to 1999, an additional facility was built to provide users with a meeting and multipurpose center as well as an indoor box. It opened to the public in 2000.
