Originally known as the Minot Art Gallery, the Lillian & Coleman Taube Museum of Art first opened its doors in 1970. The change of name occurred in 2006 under the management of the Minot Art Association.

In an effort to preserve and support local arts, the museum is affiliated with several community arts groups such as the Mouse River Players, the North Dakota Art Gallery Association, and the Minot Area Council of the Arts.

The museum?s current location is part of the National Register of Historic Places. The structure was built in 1925 and originally served as the Union National Bank. It had also served as the Jacobson Opera House for almost two decades. The museum is also equipped with its own gift shop and is available for venue rentals.
