Built in 1865, the originally Italianate villa-styled Bryn Du Mansion had first been the property of Ohio native industrialist Henry D. Wright. A year later, it was acquired by Jonas McCune and the mansion had then been known as McCune?s Villa.

Now part of the National Register of Historic Places, the Bryn Du Mansion had acquired its present name when it came to the ownership of coal and railroad tycoon John Sutphin Jones purchased the property in 1905. The name ?Bryn Du? were Welsh words for Dark Hills. It was also Jones who commissioned architect Frank Packard to renovate the mansion and turn it into the towering 52-acre Georgian-Federal estate it?s now known.

Guests of the Bryn Du Mansion may also enjoy access to the estate?s Field House as well as its polo fields and beautiful landscaped gardens.
