Court Avenue in Bellefontaine, Ohio is the oldest concrete street in the US. It was built in 1891 when George Bartholomew convinced the city officials that this new stone mixture is more durable and cost effective when it comes to paving the streets of the locale.

Court Avenue served as a test patch for Bartholomew?s proposals and led to convince the city to use concrete to pave the streets that surround the courthouse. The other three streets that were first paved were already renovated, while Court Avenue remains to be preserved. It used limestone, clay, and some aggregate, which is common materials for sidewalk paving. The original composition was even able to withstand damage better than modern methods used for restoration.

In 1974, Court Avenue became a part of the National Register of Historic Places.
