The McKell Library features a catalogue consisting of more than 37,000 items. These include 16,480 books, 15,000 photographs, manuscripts, sheet music, diaries, and many others. The highlight of the Library?s collection are the one given by Colonel David McCandless McKell. These items started in 1940 and have continued for 22 years. They were McKell?s personal collection of books and manuscripts that were given to the Society by his family after his death in 1962. The collection further increased as more citizens and residents of the County of Ross donated special books to the Society as well. These books cover a variety of topics including the entire Dewey Decimal System. Although the collection is mostly about the 19th century, it encompasses the 12th century up to the present.

The McKell Collection is composed of 15 manuscripts, 11 incunabula, and 2,300 other titles that relate to children.

The Library serves as an impressive resource center for history, which is its strongest subject matter. Visitors will be able to find American archives that were transcribed by Peter Force and the American Revolution written in scriptural verse in 1793.
