Known as one of the first interior malls in the United States, the Arcade is also a popular Ohio landmark for being the first high-rise building in Cleveland. Its master plan was designed by a local architect named John Eisenmann. He had the building built with 2 towers that are 9 floors high and linked together by an atrium that is 5 floors high. The atrium evokes a modern style with its metal and glass façade while the entire architectural design followed the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in Italy. The construction of the mall was finished in 1890. It was in 1975 that The Arcade was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and became the first structure in Cleveland to make the list. At present, it houses the Hyatt Regency Hotel, shops and a food court.
