Having been open for over a hundred years already, the Toledo Zoo is described as having one of the country?s finest animal exhibits in the book America?s Best Zoos. It is currently home to more than 9,000 animals and which belonging to over 800 different species from all corners of the world.

Exhibits found at the Toledo Zoo include the Arctic Encounter, Frog Town, Tiger Terrace, Hippoquarium, the Museum of Science, and Cheetah Valley. The zoo is also equipped with its own aquarium and amphitheatre.

Also found in the Toledo Zoo is the 1904 Ziems Conservatory, which consists of several distinctly themed gardens including a butterfly garden. Every year, the horticulture staff of the zoo prepares the Lights Before Christmas display, wich boasts of over 200 animal images and more than a million lights.
