Ecclesiastical buildings are often the best models for many grand architectural projects. Thus, it is no wonder that one of the greatest examples of Art Deco architecture in the nation is a church ? the Boston Avenue United Methodist Church.

Located in downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma, this magnificent work of art is a product of the collaborative efforts of Adah Robinson and Bruce Goff, two individuals who produced the earlier church designs. The church?s main features are its tower and spires, intricately designed architectural elements that supposedly represent hands raised upwards in prayer. Several terra cotta sculptures adorn the church?s exterior. Like many Art Deco buildings, various materials were used in the construction until its completion in 1929. The church was added to the list of National Historic Landmark on January 20, 1999.
