In the bustling city center of Oklahoma lies the state’s government seat and architectural pride – Oklahoma State Capitol. This majestic landmark houses the executive and judicial offices. The Oklahoma Legislature crafts laws inside the hallowed halls of this building, while the Oklahoma Supreme Court dispenses justice in here, as well.

Constructed in 1919, this Classic Revival building was made of white limestone on top of pink granite base. The building’s dome, whose construction was delayed until 2002, was made of reinforced concrete and plaster casts. The building’s interior is adorned with paintings by artist Wayne Cooper.

The main capitol is surrounded by other government buildings, museums, libraries and parks - ultimately forming a complex called the Oklahoma Capitol Campus. The campus is notable for being the only capitol grounds with active oil rigs. The capitol was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
