Established in 1958, the Science Museum Oklahoma is home to the Kirkpatrick Planetarium and the Dome Theater. The museum also houses other galleries that features exhibit for visitors of all ages. Originally, the Science Museum was called Kirkpatrick Planetarium, until it moved to its own dome in 1962 and was renamed Omniplex Science Museum in 1978. The museum is currently located at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds and also features additional museums such as the Space Museum and Oklahoma Air that were both added in 1980. It also includes the Kirkpatrick Gardens and Greenhouse, added in 1985, and the OmniDome Theater, added in 1998. It was in 2007 that the name of the museum was changed to Science Museum Oklahoma. Since then, the museum had undergone several remodeling including the addition of several new galleries and exhibit rooms.
