The Tulsa International Mayfest is a grand art celebration in downtown of Tulsa. It?s a four-day long celebration constituted in 1993 where visual and performing artists converge to contribute and showcase their works and talents. The Mayfest celebration is also a tribute to the Foundation Day Tulsa City.

The first Mayfest was known as Jubilee ?73 when the Junior League of Tulsa celebrating its 50th anniversary joined hand in hand with City of Tulsa which that time was celebrating its 75th Foundation Day and the Tulsa Philharmonic Society which was also celebrating its 25th anniversary. These triple celebrations brought a grand art festival from May 18-20, 1973. The following year, the Junior League of Tulsa turned over the management of Mayfest to Downtown Tulsa Unlimited and to the Arts and Humanities Council of Tulsa. From then on, the Mayfest became a bigger and grander celebration as the entire United States and seven more countries continuously participated in the annual festival.

The Mayfest features the star-studded International Music Competition, exhibition of artworks of famous artists which are selected by Mayfest set of jury. There is no admission fee for all Mayfest events. It is being held to honor the founding day of the city and merely for its people. Every year, the Mayfest features a thematic grand celebration. In the most recent Mayfest, the celebration focused on green advocacy. Thus, there were environmental activities and campaign that were showcased in the event. There was Bike Vallet and Green Gallery, both promoting sustainable future for Tulsa City.

Local and foreign tourists always look forward for this remarkable and grandiose event in Downtown Main Mall Avenue. The main street is usually closed and all people can plunge in to the flamboyant art displays of the festival.
