The Alsea River Covered Bridge is one of the oldest covered spans in the state of Oregon. It was built in 1918 crossing the Alsea River, near the community of Alsea.
The community of Alsea is quite an old river settlement that dates back to 1850. It was initially called the Alseya Settlement, after the Indian tribe that was once residing at the mouth of the river. The Alsea River Covered Bridge was built in the early 1900s, and was rebuilt in 1945. Major alterations were done, mostly the widening of its portals, so it can better accommodate larger roads.
The Alsea River Covered Bridge is near the Mill Creek Bridge and the Hayden Bridge, which is also located within the Alsea community.
