Crater Lake formed from the collapse of the Mount Mazama volcano around 7700 years ago. It is now the main highlight of the Crater Lake National Park. It is contained in a 2148 foot deep caldera, with 1949 feet in maximum depth and 5 by 6 miles of measurement.

The Crater Lake is best known for having clear waters with deep blue color. It was believed to be first discovered by the white man in 1853. It has always been a sacred site for the Klamath tribe, who are believed to have witnessed the collapse of the volcano as evidenced by one of their legends.

Crater Lake is also a pure water source, as there are no pollutants in the area that could affect its water quality.
