The Bakers, Horace and wife, Jane, travelled in 1846 from Illinois to Oregon by wagon. They were carried by the first wagon to ever cross the new Barlow Road from The Dalles to Oregon City. When they got to the area that is now a part of Carver, they built a quarry. The business thrived and the area became known as Baker?s Quarry.

The Horace Baker Log Cabin wasn?t built until 1856, 10 years after the Bakers settled on the area. It became home to their descendants as well, until 1901 when the building was abandoned. It was mostly a vacation home for family members, but they managed to add essential parts like a kitchen among others.

The Horace Baker Log Cabin was restored by the Old Timers Association, now known as the Baker Cabin Historical Society. It is currently open for tours.
