The House of Mystery at “The Oregon Vortex” is a well-known attraction found in Gold Hill, Oregon. It became popular because of the unexplained phenomena and special effects that occur inside the house. One example is when a person changes height while standing on different points inside The House. For a doubting Thomas, these phenomena are merely optical illusions but for the owners of The House, these are simply products of the paranormal properties of the Oregon Vortex.

The House dates back to 1904 when it was built to be an examiner’s office and storage for the Old Grey Eagle Mining Company. It lies on the land which is known as the Oregon Vortex that was discovered by the Native Americans and named as the “Forbidden Ground” when their horses did not want to go near the place. The spot was later on marked for the bizarre and unexplained conditions that happened there. In 1930, a geologist and mining engineer name John Litster developed the Vortex, built the House of Mystery and opened it to tourists.
