The James Cant Ranch Historic District is basically the site of the James Cant Ranch complex in Grant County, Oregon. It was originally homesteaded in 1890 and was sold in 1910 to James Cant, a Scotland native, who expanded and developed the site. In 1975, the property was acquired by the National Park Service.
The James Cant Ranch Historic District features a series of attractions that are truly worth taking a look at. Aside from the seventeen structures inside the complex, there are also a couple of vintage equipment and one operational cable car that was used by the family to cross the river. It is also an annex or an interpretive site for the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument.
