Known before as the Bachelor Butte, Mount Bachelor is actually a stratovolcano located on top of a shield volcano in the Cascade Range in central Oregon. It lies within the Mount Bachelor Volcanic Chain which runs for 15 miles long.

Mount Bachelor got its current name after the popular ski resort renamed the place to improve their image. They called it ?Bachelor? primarily because it stands apart from the three volcanic mountains, known as the Three Sisters. They dropped the ?butte? from the name and replaced it with ?mount? to make the area seem bigger.

Today, Mount Bachelor is a popular ski area. It is one of the biggest ski resorts in the Pacific Northwest Region, having 3683 acres of skiable area.
