The Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge is one of the six preserves of its sort that makes up the Oregon Coast National Wildlife Refuge Complex. It provides protection to more than 1,800 small islands, rocks, and reefs, as well as two headlands. It has a total of 371 acres worth of land under its care.

Created in 1935 by the federal government, the Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge is aimed to protect the region, being a popular spot where animals flock to. It is home to 13 species of nesting seabirds, with more than 1.2 million birds nesting at the refuge.

Being a national refuge, most islands are closed to the public. However, visitors can get as near as 500 feet from the coasts if by boat, or 200 feet above, if using an aircraft. Those looking for a good view can go to the Tillamook Rock Light and the Coquille Point.
