State fairs are common in the United States. They foster local tourism, as well as give people a great source of entertainment. This is why it shouldn?t be surprising that even the young state of Oregon also has its own official state fair, known as the Oregon State Fair.

The Oregon State Fair takes place annually, from August to September in the Oregon State Fairgrounds in north Salem. The tradition began in the early 1860s, after the Oregon Farmer newspaper started calls for a statewide fair. The first official celebration was in 1861 in the Oregon City/Gladstone area. It was moved to the official fairgrounds the next year.

The Oregon State Fair features arts, culture, food booths, and local crops. Entertainment is also something that attracts people to the celebration. A Lucha Libre event was also introduced in 2007.
