Completed in 1919, the Portland and Southwestern Railroad Tunnel was constructed for the Portland and Southwestern Railroad. The company mainly operated logging businesses, thus the need to have an efficient way to carry the load around.

The weird thing about it, however, is that unlike other logging railroads, the company chose to build tunnels, which are more complicated. This one measures up to 1712 feet long, and some portions have already collapsed in the past. Luckily, the site was cleared up and is still open from end to end.

Officially closed in 1945 when it was replaced by a truck road, the Portland and Southwestern Railroad Tunnel is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is now under the care of the Bureau of Land Management.
