Housed in the historic Richard and Helen Rice House is the Rice Northwest Museum of Rock and Minerals, a non-profit museum located in Hillsboro, Oregon. It was established in 1996 by the Rices. It was actually the second museum they?ve founded in line with earth science.

The Richard and Helen Rice are avid rock collectors. They?ve already formed a museum in 1953 to display their earlier collections, which won the Woodruff Trophy multiple times. Helen Rice also served as the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies? president from 1959 to 1960, giving the couple enough credentials to work in the industry.

Most of the displays and exhibits in the Rice Northwest Museum of Rock and Minerals date back to the 1930s, when the Rices started their collection.
