The Schminck Memorial Museum began with the collection of James Foster and Elizabeth Currier?s daughter. The couple arrived in Oregon through different routes and was married several years after. Their youngest child, Lula, married Dalpheus Schmink in Lakeview in 1901.

The Schminck couple became avid collectors of pioneer artifacts that include their mother?s lovely quilts. Their collection grew to include over 5,000 items. Lula willed their bungalow residence in trust to the OSSDAR as a museum in 1948.

Today, the Museum features pieces including Tulle sandal, sagebrush sandal, a rabbit net, basket parts, two bone tools, small stick and bone tools as well as those taken from the Catlow Valley area.

The Museum is open from February through November from 10 am ? 4 pm.
